Lim’s work delves into the seemingly ordinary spaces of our urban environment, particularly those intimately linked with the Singaporean “lifestyle”. Ranging from public housing estates to the interiors of homes and the depiction of nature within our urban environment, Lim finds fascination in the poetics of these spaces.
Drawing from her printmaking background, Lim takes a contemporary approach by employing printmaking and painting techniques. She carves wood to craft matrices, treating them as canvases in their own right. This transformative process blurs the lines between traditional printmaking and painting, challenging conventional artistic boundaries.
Through her artwork, Lim seeks to provoke introspection and inspire viewers to contemplate the intricate tapestry of life woven within the urban environment. Her pieces serve as a medium for reflecting upon the subtle yet profound connections that define our existence within these spaces.
Lim Jia Qi Jacey (b. 1997, Singapore) obtained a Degree in Fine Arts from LASALLE College of the Arts in Singapore in 2019. The same year she was awarded the Young Talent Programme solo exhibition prize and presented her showcase Concrete Encounters at ION Art Gallery. In 2022, She presented her second solo exhibition Urban: Backyard 《都市：後院》at iPreciation Gallery. Lim had also participated in various group exhibitions and art fairs including Spatial Narratives, a Duo Show together with Zhang Fuming at Art Porters Gallery in 2023, NEW/NOW at Art SG in 2022, paper: a December selection at AC43 Gallery in 2021 and Living in Still at iPreciation Gallery in 2020. Aside from her art practice, Lim is also an arts educator
