Assemblage and lithograph prints
Dimension varied
At Work is an installation consisting of an assemblage piece, Office Desk and two lithograph prints. Based on how home appliances save time so that women can go out into the workforce, the prints show a brief narrative of how home appliances, such as the washing machine, was introduced. Leading to women being able to save time and energy from doing housework and eventually being able to go out into the workforce. On the other hand, the assemblage work makes use of found household objects such as utensils, parts of a microwave oven and the door of a washing machine. These objects are combined to form a silhouette of an office desk, reflecting the disappearance of gender roles in our society- used to be men who held jobs and support the family and women who stayed home doing household chores and looking after the children. At the same time, it also suggests the increased amount of shared responsibilities as a working individual.
